How the grading works
Light is
everything.
The same rules we use at the counter, written down. Rooms set a baseline, spots nudge it, and plants have a range they're happy in.
A living room with a decent window is medium light. Bedrooms and bathrooms usually run low. Offices are medium but the air is dry, which some plants mind more than the light.
The windowsill gets one step brighter and some direct sun. The floor, usually across the room from the window, gets one step darker. Shelves and desks sit at the room's level.
Every plant has a floor it won't survive below and a sweet spot it thrives in. Ferns and calatheas also care about humidity: great in a bathroom, thirsty in an office.
